Burro’s tail, or sedum morganianum, is one of the most adorable potted succulents to take on the houseplant world. Also called donkey’s tail (burro means donkey in Spanish), burro’s tail is a trailing sedum native to southern Mexico.

Each trailing stem is covered in small succulent leaves, which is part of what makes the plant so attractive. But even the slightest brush against it can send all those baby leaves flying onto the ground, which is just one of the reasons this plant isn’t the best fit for beginner plant parents.

Light: Donkey’s tail thrives best with lots of warm sunlight.
Temperature: Normal household temperatures between 16-24°C.
Water: Unlike other succulents, do like water on a fairly frequent basis. 1-2 weeks is recommended.
Humidity: Donkey’s Tail are adapted to dry arid conditions so there is no need to increase humidity in a standard home or office.
Fertilizer: Once every two months or so during the growing seasons will be enough to keep your Donkey’s Tail healthy and thriving.
Height & Growth Rate: Grow slow and steady but can reach trailing lengths of up to 120cm long in six years’ time.

Toxicity: Mildly toxic if ingested. Keep away from children & animals.
