Bonsai is a Japanese version of the original traditional Chinese art penjing or penzai. Unlike penjing, which utilizes traditional techniques to produce entire natural sceneries in small pots that mimic the shape of real life trees. Similar versions of the art exist in other cultures, including the miniature living landscapes of Vietnamese Hòn non bộ. It was during the Tang dynasty, when penjing was at its height, that the art was first introduced into Japan.

The Bonsai Care
Light: These plants need about 5 hours of direct or indirect sunlight a day. Some species do better in winter if they get their light from indirect sources. Something to keep in mind is that these plants can burn if they’re taken from a shady place to a sunny position.
Temperature: They prefer temperatures from 17 to 23°C during the day and between 13 and 19 at night. This temperature range is actually the normal indoor temperature during the winter in most homes. Growers should avoid cold bonsai feet and roots.
Water: Water thoroughly all over the soil until the water drains through into a tray or saucer. Never let your bonsai dry out and avoid keeping it constantly wet. The soil should go from wet to damp between watering.
Humidity: It likes high humidity, so an effort must be made to maintain a good level of moisture in the air all year-round. Misting your tree a few times a week.
Fertilizer: During the growing season (early spring through late summer) your bonsai should be fed weekly with bonsai fertilizer. Keep in mind that your bonsai may stop absorbing nutrients during late summer and early fall. As growth begins to slow you should reduce your fertilizing schedule to only once a month..
Height & Growth Rate: On average, bonsai trees can take 2-3 years to grow in height with average bonsai tree growth of 3 to 8 cm per year. Generally , bonsai trees are very slow growing.
Toxicity: This plant is toxic. Keep away from children & animals.
